About Library


The College Library of Zakir Husain Delhi College(Evening), University of Delhi is one of the oldest among Delhi University College Libraries. It came into existence with the foundation of the Evening College in 1958. The Library is fully Air conditioned and has around 120 seating capacity. The Library is housed in the center of the campus in an exclusive building designed for the purpose. It is open to bonafide students, faculty members and other staff members of the college.


The Library is having a huge collection of books around 70,000on social sciences, literature and languages (English, Hindi, Urdu, Persian, Arabic, and Bengali). One copy of every textbook are kept in the Reserve Section for consultation only to enable the students to write their tutorials and do their projects. The library books are processed by using Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC) System for classification and AACR-II code for cataloguing. Besides a well-stocked collection of books, a large number of national and international journals, magazines and newspapers are being subscribed by the library. The library is fully automated with all its subsystems and uses the Library Management Software (LMS) ‘LSEASE’ of Lib Sys, which is an integrated multi-user library management system that supports all in-house operations in the library. Bibliographic information of all the books available in the library can be accessed through the Web-OPAC. Users can search the Library’s holdings by Author, Title, Subject, keywords and Combination search (Boolean search). The Library also provides a free Wi-Fi facility to students and staff members for accessing e-resources.


Library users can access a number of e-resources on various subjects available on Delhi University Library System (DULS) website. The College library also subscribes N-LIST (National Library and Information Services Infrastructure for Scholarly Content) which provides access to e-books and e-resources to faculty members, students and staff. It also offers audio and video facilities to cater to the current information needs of students and especially the needs of visually challenged students.


Major Objectives of the Library
* To provide high quality and up-to-date information resources to cater to the curriculum and information needs of the students, faculty and staff;
* To develop, maintain and provide a wide range of library services and facilities with the use of the latest ICTs;
* To organize user orientation and Information Literacy training programmes for the promotion and optimum utilization of library resources and services.
